Transit amenities such as the TTC’s Line 1 subway, a major bus terminal, and the Crosstown LRT under construction at Eglinton Station have spurred the growth of this community into a vibrant and connected neighbourhood, close to the established neighbourhoods of North Toronto, Chaplin Estates, and Davisville Village.

Area Development Pipeline
MAY - JUNE 2017 - Community Ideas Fair #1 and #2
Community open house to reflect on community feedback to our guiding principles, or “big ideas”, and City of Toronto planning principles already established for the site, and to collect more feedback from the community.
MAY 2020 - NOVEMBER 2020 - Community Outreach
The project team reconnected with local community groups, picking up where the 2017
engagement process left off.
Following the 2017 community engagement process, Oxford initiated a detailed assessment of the existing site conditions, with a focus on current and planned transit facilities (e.g. TTC subway, TTC bus and ECLRT). The transit facilities at Canada Square present unique, site-specific challenges for redevelopment and close coordination with the transit agencies (TTC and Metrolinx) will be required throughout the redevelopment process.
While many aspects of Oxford’s site assessment remain ongoing, it has been determined that the redevelopment will need to be phased to accommodate the active transit operations on the site. Further, the first phase of the redevelopment will occur at the north side of the site which will not be available until the ECLRT project is complete (currently anticipated in 2022).
Based on the anticipated completion date of the ECLRT project, and informed by the 2017 community engagement process, in the fall of 2019 Oxford initiated a process to engage a best-in-class design team for the Canada Square redevelopment. The design team was selected in early 2020 and master planning work was initiated
AUGUST 2020 - Website Launch and community outreach
Using a series of online feedback tools, the public provided their ideas on current uses, site priorities and ideas for the future.
NOVEMBER 23 2020 - Virtual Community Meeting #1 – Development Application Preview
This first virtual community meeting was an opportunity to hear from members of the project team about the emerging master plan for the site, discuss opportunities and design constraints, learn what has been heard from the community to-date in discussions about the site and ask questions.
WINTER 2021 - SPRING 2021 - Community Outreach
Resident Association Meetings provided an opportunity for community members from local resident, ratepayer, and condo associations to meet with the project team, learn about the context of Canada Square, and provide feedback on opportunities and concerns they have about the proposed redevelopment
